'Twas The Night Before The Wedding Adapted from an article written by Jo Anne Chavez
The clock is ticking and your mind is racing. There's just hours left until it officially becomes your day. . .
While you can still probably think of two dozen things that must be done, the night before your wedding is the time to delegate. If you must do anything wedding related the night before you say "I do," make the tasks small and fast leaving you more time to just relax and unwind...
So what should you do once the rehearsal has ended and dinner is through? If you haven't already, take a few minutes to spend with...and thank...each key person - your future spouse, your parents, your bridal party, etc. Give them a small token of your appreciation and love, and remind them how important they are.
If you have a brother or sister who isn't in the wedding party, or even children of your own, make sure you let them know how special they are and what an important part of the wedding day they will be
Some brides opt to stay with their families the night before the wedding, while others stay with their children and/or soon to be spouse, with their friends and bridesmaids or even alone. Whoever you chose to spend your last "single" night with, make it special but uneventful. Skip the liquor and choose activities that will relax you and keep you smiling.
If you're opting to spend the evening with family, pull out some old family photo albums and reminisce about your childhood and good family times. Perhaps play a game of Monopoly or Scrabble, good for a few laughs and a great distraction from the frenzy that wedding planning has likely been.
Spending the night with the girls? Make it a slumber party. Gather your bridesmaids, your pillows, your PJs, your popcorn and watch some ultimate chick flicks. The daring type? Make them wedding-related movies -- "The Wedding Singer," "Runaway Bride," "My Best Friend's Wedding" or "The Wedding Planner." While these movies may be everything you don't want for your wedding, they'll at least give you a good laugh.
If you're staying with your soon-to-be hubby, take some time to reflect on your relationship. Sort through the boxes of mementos you've kept from your relationship - from cards and movie tickets to photos and e-mails. Share your thoughts on the wedding and dream about the future that is now just hours away.
Regardless of who you are with and where you are, in Charlotte or anywhere else, set aside a few minutes to be alone. Even if it's just for 15 minutes. Reflect on the life-altering event that is about to occur and just breathe. Reflect on your loved ones who have made such efforts to be there to celebrate with you, reflect on your relationship which you are preparing to solidify with vows. Reflect on how you pulled this whole show together, and be sure to give yourself plenty of praise for a job well done.
Whatever you decide to do, don't do it all night. Head for bed at an early hour, even if your wedding isn't until the following evening. Chances are if you can get a full eight hours of sleep, you'll need every single second.
Can't sleep? Drink a glass of warm milk before dozing or spritz your pillow with lavender or another sleeping inducing aroma. Enlist someone to give you a nice back rub or give yourself your own temple rub to relax. If reading coaxes you to sleep, make it an inspirational book, perhaps a book of love quotes. If you prefer music, find a soft rock or classical station that often uses their night programs for soft romantic melodies. While ideally, you should avoid taking a sleep aid, if you can't get a wink without, make sure you have an alarm clock set and a backup Gestapo to wake you come daylight.
As they say, the rest of your life will begin to tomorrow. So make the most of tonight.
